Summary Research Fellow School of Engineering Location: Highfield Campus Salary: £30,395 to £32,236 Full Time, Fixed Term (end date 30/06/2021) Closing Date: Thursday 15 August 2019 Reference: 1156219DA This project aims to develop a new generation of hybrid Micro/Nano-electromechanical system (MEMS/NEMS) incorporating functional materials, such as liquid crystals, to enable novel functions. The candidate will join an established and dynamic interdisciplinary research team and collaborate with the Optoelectronics Research Centre, one of the world's leading photonics institutes. The candidate will also have the opportunity to work in the University of Southampton's £120M state-of-the-art cleanroom complex, one of Europe's most advanced micro- and nanofabrication facilities (http://www.zeplerinstitute.ac.uk/facilities/). The candidate must have, or will shortly obtain, a PhD* in one or multiple areas of Micro/Nano-electromechanical system (MEMS/NEMS), mechanical engineering, metamaterials, liquid crystal etc. It is essential that the candidate has hands-on experience in cleanroom fabrications such as lithography masks, design and testing of MEMS/NEMS, micro/Nano materials characterization. A track record in publishing peer-reviewed international journal papers is highly desirable. Interdisciplinary research experience in functional materials, electrical or chemical engineering is also considered. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and show good communication skills and the ability to work in a team. The post is offered on a full time, fixed term contract until 30th June 2021 in the first instance with have good possibility of extension. It is available for an immediate start.
