Summary This role is an exciting opportunity for a PhD or MSc (plus industrial experience) qualified graduate to take on a strategic project with the support of mentors from Pulse Power and Measurement (PPM), Aston University and Innovate UK. The project will apply knowledge of optical fibre communications and Radio Frequency to develop an innovative optical transport system, to deliver improved signal profiles required for long distance diversity solutions. You will work in a project team with Dr Paul Harper and Dr Wladek Forysiak at Aston University and the technical and senior management teams at PPM. Pulse Power and Measurement (PPM) designs and manufactures a wide range of Radio Frequency (RF) over fibre systems, which allow RF electrical signals to be transmitted over fibre optic cables. Find out more at https://ppm.co.uk/ Aston University's academic team is part of Aston's Institute of Photonics Technologies (AIPT), a world-leading centre for research in applicable methods for optical fibre and photonics. You will be based predominantly at Pulse Power and Measurement, Watchfield, Swindon. You will have a PhD in the field of optical fibre communications or an MSc with industrial experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in the use of specialist optical and RF test equipment with practical lab skills and experience of numerical modelling, along with: Optical fibre simulation experience and a detailed knowledge of RF systems is highly desirable Strong problem solving and analytical skills and experience. Strong organisation and communication skills to take ownership of the project and ensure it progresses to achieve the agreed objectives. Interpersonal skills to work closely with PPM staff across all functions to embed the skills through collaborative working. Communication skills to be able to present project progress across the company. This project is a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) funded by PPM and Innovate UK.
