An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and visionary professional to lead the nursing team in the general surgery outpatient department, University Hospitals Southampton (UHS) NHS Foundation Trust. This post is at band 7 senior sister/senior charge nurse level. The service is a cross site provision of 45 clinic rooms, supporting the clinical specialities of ENT, OMF and general surgery, plus other UHS specialities. The department cared for in excess of 60,000 patients in 2017. It is based at UHS and at the Royal South Hants Hospital and was CQC rated in 2017 as Good achieving this through all domains.
You will lead a service transformation from a traditional outpatient nursing model to a modernised outpatient's service for both patients and staff, working closely with the matron and clinical lead. You will support and deliver an effective clinic utilisation programme, explore new ways of working and develop a robust nurse led clinic service leading by example by undertaking your own clinical patient case mix. Your time will be split to 50% clinical and 50% strategic supporting and developing the current outpatient nursing team.
Your will be working in amongst a range of MDT. You will ensure high standards of patient care are maintained, acting as a credible role model and patients advocate at all times utilising the NMC professional code of conduct as the framework for your nursing practice. The successful candidate will require to demonstrate extensive managerial and leadership at band 6 and be educated to degree level, a commencement of MSc pathway is desirable. You must be able to demonstrate the attributes and ability to motivate and manage a team in an evolving environment and be an individual who has proven excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills alongside sound decision-making and an innovative leadership style.
