Job Description


Design,develop and deliver a range of programmes.Use appropriate teaching and learning support and assessment methods.Review on a regular basis course content and materials,updating when required.Identify areas where current provision is in need of revision or improvement.Set,mark and assess work and provide feedback.
Engage in subject,professional and pedagogy scholarly research as required.Participate in individual or collaborative scholarly projects.Extend,transform and apply knowledge from scholarship to teaching and external activities.Develop and produce learning materials and disseminate the results of scholarly activity.Development of research-informed teaching and learning strategies.
Participate in external networks for example with external examiners and assessors professional associations.Develop links with external contacts such as other educational bodies,employers,and professional bodies.
Mentor colleagues and advise on development, could be expected to supervise the work of others.Ensure modules are delivered to the standards required.Resolve problems affecting the quality of course delivery and student progress.
Act as a responsible team member,leading where agreed.Collaborate with colleagues to identify and respond to students' needs.
Identify need for developing content or structure of modules.Develop ideas and find ways of disseminating and applying the result of scholarship.Collaborate with colleagues on the implementation of assessment procedures.Advise on strategic issues such as student recruitment and marketing.Contribute to the accreditation of courses and quality control processes.Tackle issues affecting the quality of delivery within scope of own level of responsibility,referring more serious matters to others.
Co-ordinate with others to ensure student needs and expectations are met.Manage projects relating to own area of work and organisation of external activities.Responsible for administrative duties such as admissions,time-tabling,examinations,assessment of progress and student attendance.
Within the context of Cardiff Metropolitan University's H&S policy, depending on area of work and level of training received, may be expected to conduct risk assessment and take responsibility for the health and safety of others.
Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop teaching programmes and the provision of learning support.
Education and Qualifications-Essential
Good honours degree and/or equivalent professional qualification.Qualified Teacher Status.Master's qualification, or an ability to complete within two years.Ability to achieve Fellow Status as part of the Higher Education Academy's Professional Recognition scheme, within a 2-year period.Membership of a professional body.
Education and Qualifications-Desirable
PhD or other doctoral award, or an ability to complete within an agreed timescale.
In-depth knowledge relevant to the professional area.Evidence of undertaking continuous professional development (CPD).In-depth understanding of pedagogy.A sound understanding of research/enterprise and scholarly activity.
Regional/National/International recognition in specialist subject and/or professional area.
Skills and Abilities Relating to Role-Essential
To design teaching and learning material.To employ appropriate assessment methods.To contribute to the achievement of the School Strategic Enabling Plan.To undertake administrative duties in an accurate and timely fashion.To plan workloads and projects.To identify areas for improvement and to use initiative and problem solving skills to improve performance.To take responsibility for a number of key areas such as module tutor,Welsh language development,research supervision.To present conceptual ideas verbally in Welsh.To write complex documents in Welsh and in a variety of ways-presentations,reports, learning materials,results of scholarly activity,feedback.To develop productive working relationships.To lead/develop/work collaboratively with a number of internal and external networks.
Experience Paid/Unpaid-Essential
Significant experience of teaching in the primary school sector.Experience of HE teaching or equivalent,mentoring students.Experience in pedagogic and practitioner research.
Experience Paid/Unpaid-Desirable
Experience of teaching in Higher Education.
