The Regional Director will lead and further develop Mott MacDonald's Surface Transport team in Scotland and can be based in either the Glasgow or Edinburgh office with an expectation to split time across offices each week. You will focus on the growth of our Surface Transport offer and will have responsibility for the leadership of the teams in both offices as well as the management and delivery of projects. The role will require excellent people and management skills, together with team development, business development and customer liaison. A key part of the business you will need to further develop relationships with Scottish clients and you will need to demonstrate evidence of existing relationships and breath of experience of work undertaken to date. You will be working in multi-disciplinary teams where Mott MacDonald provides a variety of engineering, environment, transport planning and related services so internal networking will also be important.
You will report directly to the Director of Surface Transport of Scotland and North and will also work closely with other Directors across the UK regions. As part of our senior management team, you will be expected to direct, manage and mentor Account Leaders for a defined set of client accounts, and to take accountability and provide consolidated reporting for the aggregate performance of these accounts.
Key responsibilities will involve the following:
Securing and delivering a transport planning and traffic engineering design work streams.
Developing relationships and delivering projects with existing and new clients including Transport Scotland, Strathclyde Partnership Transport and Local Authorities (Excel)
Directing project teams on projects including transport aspects of developments and transport infrastructure.
Ensuring quality delivery to industry and client standards adopting Mott MacDonald best practice guidelines and quality assurance procedures.
Expanding our external and internal markets.
Business development, proposal writing and interviews and presentations.
Liaison with clients and other project stakeholders.
Leading negotiations with local and national highway and planning authorities.
Growing and managing and mentoring team members including skills transfer and training.
Leading and encouraging professional excellence activities.
Being a senior member of the management team for the Surface Transport which provides a wide range of transport planning services in Scotland and the North of the UK and overseas.
You will be able to demonstrate the following skills, experience and attributes:
A degree in a relevant subject.
Membership of a relevant professional institution.
Excellent people and management skills.
Substantive in-depth technical, project delivery, leadership, customer liaison and commercial experience, probably gained over a substantial period with private and/or public sector organisations, preferably with a consultancy.
Experience in taking responsibility for the transport planning and traffic engineering elements of major and complex development and transport infrastructure proposals.
A strong track record of successful business development in the Scottish Market.
Good leadership, team management, communication and interpersonal skills.
A commitment to providing high quality solutions and advice to clients.
Capable of building strong customer relationships, developing business, motivating and developing staff and raising our profile.
Commercial and contract management experience
Experience of successful negotiation with highways, infrastructure and planning authorities.
The following would also be desirable but are not essential: -
An MSc or post degree qualifications in a transport or engineering related subject.
Transport Appraisal (STAG) & Business Case experience
Expert witness experience.
