Job Description

Summary

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and enthusiastic pharmacist to join the pharmacy team at the Manchester Royal Infirmary (Oxford Road Campus).

We are looking for someone to develop and lead the pharmacy team providing a service to adult patients within the Division of Medicine (elderly, stroke, rehabilitation & complex discharge). You will be an excellent leader who is self-motivated and confident to develop this new role; and whilst you will have the ability to influence others, you will also have an approachable, personable manner that can forge good working relationships within the pharmacy team, as well as to any wider multi-disciplinary teams.

You must be confident in your clinical knowledge as you will need to respond to questions and give advice within the team and to other healthcare professionals in the area. The role includes medicines reconciliation, prescribing and reviewing prescribing, attending appropriate ward rounds, counselling and managing timely discharges. You will deputise for and attend meetings in the absence of the Divisional Lead Pharmacist and also be responsible for guideline development, audit and project work within your area. The suitable candidate will also need to work closely with the other Lead pharmacists within the Division to manage rotas, undertake appraisals and investigate incidents and complaints.

You must be registered with GPhC and hold a postgraduate clinical diploma. You will have suitable hospital pharmacy experience across a wide range of specialities and must have experience of recent working as a pharmacist in Acute Medicine. An independent prescribing qualification is desirable.

The pharmacy department consists of over 300 members of staff providing pharmaceutical services to various specialities. We have a wealth of clinical knowledge from a wide range of medical specialities, including a strong team of senior pharmacists. The department has strong links at under and post graduate level at Manchester University. This post will provide a unique leadership opportunity for the right candidate, and is an exciting time to be joining the Trust's clinical pharmacy team as we have recently transitioned into the Single Hospital Service.

Candidates will take part in the extended hours/weekend/Bank Holiday rotas.
