The Department for Education is responsible for education, children's services, higher and further education policy, apprenticeships and wider skills in England, and equalities. We work to achieve a highly educated society in which opportunity is equal for all, no matter what their background or family circumstances.
You will be working in the Operations Group, which is responsible for the main corporate functions of the department including, commercial, analysis, international education, digital, data and technology functions, human resources, finance, estates and the governance and relationship standards with the DfE's public bodies.
Operations Group's objectives are to ensure that the Department:
• Has a clear and coherent strategic direction and overall performance framework;
• Is resourced (people, data/information, commercial, finance, IT) and organised right to deliver its business objectives;
• Is underpinned by efficient and effective systems and processes, driven by customer needs; and
• Has a clear and proportionate internal control and assurance regime, which enables risks to be identified and managed.
Technology Directorate sits within the Operations Group.
It is an exciting time to join Technology Directorate as our newly established function looks to stabilise new services introduced through an ambitious Modernisation Programme, optimise the desktop environment for all colleagues, and transform the way in which our users work so that they are the most effective they can be.
The two-year Modernisation Programme replaced the department's static infrastructure to a cloud-based, modern and efficient environment - and the introduction of Microsoft Surface devices and Office 365 for all employees has truly opened up the freedom from traditional 'email and attachment' type working to real-time collaboration.
Part of a wider Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) community across government, Technology Directorate shares a clear vision of making public services digital by default, simpler, clearer and faster to use.
We are recruiting an HEO Developer for the Solutions Development Team within Technology Directorate. Developers are an integral part of our team, providing us with the skills to build the systems we create and support.
This will be a challenging and varied role, supporting the team in their transition from traditional support and development processes to supporting small service lines in accordance with Government Digital Services ways of working.
As one of the team's developers you will not only work developing software but be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team supporting and embracing our user focused ways of working. You will share best practice with the team and be confident in suggesting improvements to ways of working and making them a reality.
