Job Description

Summary

CONSULTANT IN PSYCHIATRY - 2 POSTS

Bexley Care - Millbrook & Lesney Wards, Woodlands Unit

Permanent - 10 PAs/ 40 hours per week

£77,913 - £105,042 plus £2,162 LW per annum + 1% on-call supplement

An exciting opportunity has arisen with the creation of two new inpatient Consultant roles in Bexley, part of Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust each with two, community out-reach sessions.

Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of Mental Health Services for Greenwich, Bexley and Bromley. Oxleas also provides a range of physical health services to adults and children in the community in the boroughs of Bexley and Greenwich, these range from health visitors and community midwives working with the very young, to district nurses and therapists meeting the physical health needs of older people. 'Bexleycare' is the new service for the Borough of Bexley combining mental health, physical health, and adult social care under a single management structure to provide better integrated care for local residents.

The post holder will be Consultant on Millbrook or Lesney Ward at the Woodlands Unit for 8 sessions per week, having the support of three junior doctors (there is some slight variation between the exact trainee spread, as per the full JDs). The post holder will also provide two sessions per week to one of the three new integrated community 'Local Care Networks', that provide physical and mental health, and adult social care based around local GP practices.

The inpatient side will involve medical cover for all acute inpatients (20 patients) admitted to Millbrook or Lesney Ward. The post-holder will be the Responsible Clinician (RC) for all detained inpatients. It is expected that the post holder will work very closely with the ward manager to deliver high quality evidence based clinical care to inpatients and take a lead on clinical governance including the delivery of key performance indicators, learning from incidents and service user feedback action plans.

The community side will involve supporting the full time Consultant Psychiatrist and community team, working with community patients considered close to hospital admission, facilitating discharge of inpatients, and enhancing inpatient-community experiences and relations.

Successful applicants may express a preference for one or other ward at interview. Contact the Clinical Director, Dr Derek Tracy, on [email protected] to discuss or arrange a visit.
