This Lead Learning Assistant role is a fantastic opportunity to join a committed team of professionals at New River College. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of learning assistants on one of the school sites with the aim of supporting and implementing the inclusion agenda and SEN Code of Practice. The Lead Learning Assistant role complements the work of teachers through planning, preparation, and delivery of learning activities as well as the assessment, recording, and reporting of pupils' achievement and progress. As well as curriculum related responsibilities, the role also has a strong pastoral element as the successful applicant will be the designate safeguarding lead, supporting the Deputy Headteacher in all safeguarding related concerns. New River College comprises of three pupil referral units in Islington (primary, secondary and medical), for pupils with social, emotional and mental health challenges (SEMH). We educate children and young people aged five to sixteen years old who have been permanently excluded or participate in our preventative programmes to address their behaviour, and children and young people with complex SEMH or medical needs. New River College Secondary is split across two sites so a willingness to teach on multiple sites is essential. We also provide outreach support to build capacity in mainstream schools to manage children and young people with SEMH. We offer a core curriculum to all pupils which includes English, Maths, Science, Humanities and a selection of foundation subjects. We also work with a number of alternative providers around enhanced learning opportunities. All our PRUs have been inspected under the new Ofsted framework and all are either good or outstanding.
