Summary The Leicester Diabetes Centre (LDC) is the largest diabetes research group in the UK with local, national and a global reputation for excellence in clinical research and healthcare professional education. It has a multi-million pound annual budget, a 160 multi-disciplinary team, and a portfolio of over 30 active trials. Part of the LDC's portfolio of activity includes screening and prevention studies, Industry sponsored and Industry funded Investigator trials, multi and single site studies and a suite of studies around physical activity and lifestyle. Funders include those from the NIHR, MRC, Charities and Industry. It's senior investigator hold or lead, several prestigious NIHR awards including the Lifestyle and Physical Activity theme of Leicester's Biomedical Research Centre, A Collaboration in Leadership for Applied Research and Health Care (CLAHRC EM), and several NIHR and/or HTA grants. In addition to this it leads and hosts the National DESMOND and EDEN programmes. The Leicester Diabetes Centre has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and inspirational Senior Research Associate to join the LDC. The post holder will manage, administer and facilitate funding applications for research and assist in providing strategic direction for the funding applications for the diabetes, obesity and physical activity research programme. The post holder will have investigator level input into new and on-going successfully funded research projects. They will have responsibility for the department and dissemination of academic publications and conference presentations within the speciality of diabetes, with a primary focus on obesity, physical activity and surgical interventions for obesity and diabetes. The post holder will act as a clinical research expert and professional resource for the multidisciplinary team, external collaborators, patients and carers. The post holder will, in addition to funding applications, develop study protocols. The ideal candidate will have a high level of communication skills enabling maintenance of high quality research within a complex and challenging environment with often conflicting priorities. The post is fixed term for 12 months, to apply candidates must hold a relevant PhD, have an active portfolio and evidence of a publication record, with relevant years' experience working within the field of physical activity, obesity and diabetes.
