Summary The Directorate of Respiratory Medicine, at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a Clinical Fellow in Long Term Ventilation, to support its growing Long Term Ventilation Service, through the exciting transition into dedicated long-term ventilation and weaning unit. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who is at the level of core medical training or equivalent and wishes to gain considerable knowledge of a respiratory medicine sub-specialty (long-term ventilation) to support a future application for a specialty training number in Respiratory Medicine. They will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the management of both domiciliary non-invasive and invasive tracheostomy ventilation. The new post holder will assist in providing in-patient clinical care on the long term ventilation unit and will be encouraged to participate in an active audit and research portfolio. Full Consultant cover is provided as well as support from an enthusiastic highly skilled multidisciplinary team. Educational opportunities and supervision will be comparable with those of a training post. It is intended that the holder of the post will work in the Long Term Ventilation Service as a Clinical Fellow for up to 12 months. Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest in the country and is recognised as a centre of excellence in a number of specialities. It has close links with the University of Manchester Medical School with several professorial departments and dedicated research/teaching block. The FT provides district, regional and supra-regional services. It provides regional services in Respiratory Medicine, Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery. There are separate Cardiothoracic, General Intensive, High Dependency, Coronary Care and Special Care Baby Units. The hospital also houses Burns and Plastic Surgery Unit and Vascular Surgery. Wythenshawe Hospital has a new refurbished Accident and Emergency Department, Gastrointestinal Surgery, Paediatric Services, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedic Surgery, ENT and General Medicine. In addition to district services, there are also Renal Dialysis facilities and Disablement Services.Manchester is well placed for easy access to the Lancashire coast, the Lake District and the Derbyshire Peak District, the Yorkshire Moors and North Wales.
