(Term time Only) Base: 3 Vacancies- Shepherds Down School (Winchester) Osborne School (Winchester) Icknield School (Andover) Three rare and exciting opportunities have become available for Associate Practitioners to join our well established Special School Nursing Service. At Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust we are increasing the number of special schools that we provide healthcare support to. As part of this development, we have created three opportunities for enthusiastic forward thinking Associate Practitioner's. We are looking for three outstanding practitioners with experience of working in a school environment or healthcare role with children and young people. Your role will involve assisting and supporting the qualified nurse to provide health support. This is a rare opportunity to work within one of the three special schools where you would also have the opportunity to work closely with our Community Children's Nursing Team, colleagues at Firvale- our respite service, as well as our existing special schools and the wider child health multi-disciplinary team. You will have responsibility for assisting the qualified school nurse in ensuring plans of care are reviewed and maintained, and work with children and families to help achieve maximum independence in health and well-being. You will work closely with teachers and classroom assistants in meeting care needs. This busy role requires you to be flexible in a constantly changing environment and to respond to emergency needs as they arise. In order to be able to deliver the care required to children and young people with a range of health care needs we will ensure you receive appropriate training with annual skills updates, and have the opportunity to undertake formal training should you wish. The skills required will include nutritional management via gastrostomy, epilepsy care, medicines management, excellence in communication with children with learning disability and a sound understanding of the safeguarding agenda. You will be able to teach others in practice and be an advocate for the child. Child health will ensure excellent development opportunities and a range of expertise for advice and support in your role. Our expectation is that you would have a Foundation degree in Health and Social Care including medicines management or be working towards the qualification. Car owner /driver essential.
